Respiratory Physician

Dr Zaheer Bhikoo is a highly skilled Respiratory & Sleep and General Medicine Physician and completed his undergraduate training at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

Dr Bhikoo continued his training in the UK where he completed the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, followed by Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, with completion of specialist training in Respiratory and General Medicine in New Zealand.

He worked as a respiratory physician at a tertiary centre in New Zealand, where he was the clinical lead of the respiratory training program, the respiratory physiology laboratory and ran a severe asthma service. He was also an associate director of physician training and a senior lecturer with the University of Auckland.

Dr Bhikoo moved to Queensland in 2018, where he established an inpatient respiratory unit and consolidated the care of outpatients at Caboolture Hospital and served as the Clinical Director of Medicine, leading the department through a period of sustained growth and establishment of new models of care.

He is a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland.

His interests include all aspects of respiratory disease, including asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease and respiratory infections. He is passionate about chronic disease management and hospital admission avoidance strategies, as well as clinical teaching.

Dr Bhikoo’s research interests include airways disease, respiratory physiology and quality improvement. He has presented posters at various international conferences.
